    Lean Six Sigma experts

Although Lean Six Sigma is best known as a project-based improvement structure, it actually is much broader than that. Lean Six Sigma is an established philosophy, an organisational and improvement structure as well as a set of tools. Using this perspective, Lean Six Sigma addresses organizational issues with respect to competitiveness, cost reduction, and customer satisfaction…..

Two approaches to organising Continuous Improvement initiatives

There are two ways to organise Continuous Improvement initiatives:

    An Ongoing regular approach
E.g. a group of people getting together on a regular, maybe even daily, basis to improve a process.

    A Project-based approach
E.g. a project team getting together on a weekly basis under the supervision of a project manager.

In both approaches, you will typically find certain roles.

Ongoing initiatives: Lean Thinker & Green belt
Project-based initiatives: Green Belt & Black Belt

A Lean Thinker has knowledge of the basic Lean methods and tools. In this role, a Lean Thinker is able to apply these methods and tools to his daily work. A Green Belt optimises processes on a daily basis and on a project basis, often next to a regular job. The Green Belt takes part in Lean Six Sigma projects and sometimes carries out (sub)projects. A  Black Belt is a Lean Six Sigma expert who optimises processes on a project basis. He/she leads improvement initiatives, carries out (larger)projects and coaches the Green Belts. Often this is a full-time role.
